Welcome to Indian Music (Hindustani Vocal) Department:

Programme Name: Hindustani Vocal

The department of Indian Music (Hindustani Vocal) in BJB Autonomous College was established in the year 2008 with an aim of imparting knowledge in the field of Hindustani Vocal to undergraduate students from basic to advance level (Prarambhik to Visharad).

It also focuses on the moral, social, cultural and spiritual development of the students through the teaching disciplines of Sangeet Sadhana.  Few of these disciplines are Naad Sadhana, Swar Sadhana, voice culture, Taal Gyan, Shastriya Gyan, Historical evolutional of Indian Music, knowledge of eminent artistes and their contribution towards the rich tradition of Hindustani shastriya sangeet, Raag gayan, Upa-shastriya gayan and Bhakti Sangeet.

The department has a strength of 08 nos. of students for each year with four number of teaching faculties. In UG Syllabus the faculties are teaching14 core papers, 4 DSE papers and 2 GE papers. The year 2024 offers 15 Major courses in Core -1 for 1st to 3rd year, and 03 Minor – 2 courses in Core 3 for 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters respectively.

The Department’s vision is to foster a society that values Music as a part of a universal education and an essential expression of the Human experience.

  1. To help students develop self-discipline and creativity, aesthetic sensitivity and fulfilment through Music.
  2. To nurture a sense of group identity and togetherness through composing, rehearsing and performing music with others to an audience.
  3. To develop student’s awareness and understanding of music from a variety of styles, periods and cultures through a high-quality music education that helps students develop a life-long love for music, self-confidence and creativity.
  1. Organising “Baithakis”, Seminars and workshops on Indian Music.
  2. Preparing the students to perform Classical Music in prestigious stages and concerts.
  3. To enrich the campus through Music programmes, workshops and public events and provide opportunity for traditional and contemporary musical expression by students, faculty, guest artistes, etc.
