General Information About Examinations (Regular Courses)

  • Three Year Degree course leading to the B.A, B.Com, B Sc. shall spread over a period of Six Semesters in three Academic
  • Each of the Semester Examination shall include one Mid-Semester and the Semester End In every Academic Year there shall be two Semesters.
  • Two Year Regular PG courses (In 19 subjects) shall spread over a period of four Semesters in two Academic There shall be a Mid-Semester and a Semester End examination in each semester.
  • Examinations for all the odd number of semesters like 1st, 3rd, 5th shall be held normally in the early part of the month of December and the semesters of even numbers like 2nd, 4th, 6th, shall be held in the month of April every year.

  • For Post-Graduation courses the duration of Semester End and Theory Examination shall be 3 hours or as per the specification of the

For Post Graduate Practical Examinations the total time for the examination shall be as follows:

For Practical paper up to 50 marks -3 Hours

 For Practical Paper of more than 50 Marks  – 6 Hours

  • All Mid-Semester examination shall be of one Hour duration irrespective of total marks assigned or the
  • Pass mark for a Semester: Each Semester shall be treated as a separate unit and the candidate shall have to pass in individual subjects/papers as the case may The                           marks secured in Mid -Semester and Semester End examination shall be taken together  to consider the pass/fail result of the candidate.
  • Provision for Back Paper:
  • Special Back: Subject to approval of competent authority, a special back examination may be held for students who failed to clear the semester examination in the stipulated three chances

Special Back Examination facility for all semesters shall also available for students of Degree Courses.

Degree (UG)-Within 6 years from the admission year

  • Students shall appear in Back Paper examination along with the same Semester students of their successive two Admission Batches. However the question shall be  set as per the syllabus meant for the Admission Batch from which a student shall appear in Back Paper
  • Fifth Special Back: There shall be a Special chance Back Examination for the students who failed to clear the Fifth Semester before the Sixth semester examination or along with
  • Improvement Examination: A candidate securing less than 60% but more than 36% (subject to clearance of all semester examinations) in honours papers combined together can appear for improvement after he/she passes the final degree examination.
    For improvement a student can avail immediate chances with the next batch of students, once during the odd semester (November – December tentatively) and the other during the even semester (April – May tentatively).

Such attempts for improvement shall not be treated as back paper. On the basis of the marks of improvement (Only if the candidate improves) fresh and revised mark sheet and provisional certificate shall be issued to him/her with intimation to the Controller of Utkal University.

  • Award of Distinction: A student appearing in Back-Papers under the provision shall not be awarded Distinction even if he secured marks necessary for award of 

Regulation Under Graduate Programme (BA/B.Com/B.Sc) As per CBCS system from 2019 Admission Batch (with suitable modification)

          (A) Compulsory Registration:

  • Registration for 1st semester is compulsory. A candidate admitted to +3 Course but not registered for 1stsemester examination, his/her admission will be automatically The candidates fulfilling the attendance norms and other eligibility criteria will be allowed to appear the examination.
  • If a students does not appear for all the papers in both first and second semester examinations, his admission for the said course will be cancelled.
  • Only one admit card (called Examination card) for all semester examinations shall be issued to the student by Controller of Examination (COE) in the first This will be valid for all semesters.

Mid Semester Examinations:

  • Mid Semester examination will be of 01 (one) hour duration of 20/15 marks (20 for subjects having no practical and 15 for subjects with practical papers). There shall be no pass mark in mid semester The type of questions will be decided by the college authority.
  • A student who fails to appear in a mid-semester examination will appear special mid semester examination in the same
  • A student who fails to appear both mid-semester and special mid semester will be allowed to appear the examination in the mid semester of same There will be no provision to appear in the mid-semester Examination for improvement.

BACK PAPER EXAMINATION:

  • A student has to clear back papers (e., in the paper/papers one has failed) by appearing at subsequent two consecutive semesters (Two- Back Paper Chance) of the same nomenclature.

SPECIAL BACK EXAMINATION:

  • Subject to approval of competent authority, a special back examination may be held for students who failed to clear the semester examination in the stipulated three chances

IMPROVEMENT EXAMINATION:

  • A student after passing out may appear in improvement in Honours of papers in the two immediate examinations with next batch students.. The higher marks shall be retained. A candidate securing less than 60% but more than 40% (subject to clearance of all semester examinations) in honours papers combined together can appear for improvement after he/she passes the final degree examination
  • No improvement will be allowed for the students who have cleared the semesters by appearing special back examination.

FOR ARTS STREAM HE/SHE SHALL HAVE TO CHOOSE:

(a) One core subject from among the list of following subjects:

ANTHROPOLOGY, ECONOMICS, EDUCATION, ENGLISH, GEOGRAPHY, HINDI, HISTORY, MATHEMATICS, MUSIC(HV), ODIA, PHILOSOPHY, POLITICAL SCIENCE, PSYCHOLOGY, SANSKRIT, SOCIOLOGY, STATISTICS or any other subject to be opened in the future as per the rule of the College/University.

(b) Two Generic elective (GE) subjects: One for First Year from Group I and one for Second year from group II. Each elective subject is composed of two papers of 100 marks each.

Group I – (GE-l, GE-2): ANTHROPOLOGY, APPLIED PHILOSOPHY, HINDI, LANDMARKS IN INDIAN HISTORY (LIH), PSYCHOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, ENGLISH, SANSKRIT & NCC*.

Group II – (GE-3, GE-4): INDIAN ECONOMICS, EDUCATION, INDIAN GEOGRAPHY, INDIAN MUSIC (HV), ODIA, INDIAN POLITY, SOCIOLOGY & STATISTICS.

  • The facility of Scribe/Reader will be allowed to the students who have disability of 40% or more if so desired by the students.
  • The qualification of scribe should be one step below the qualification of the candidate taking examination.
  • In case of emergency there will be flexibility on restrictions of Scribe/Reader.
  • Compensatory/Additional time 20 minutes per hour of examination will be given to the candidates.
  • Letter of Undertaking for using Own Scribe is to be submitted to the exam section.

MALPRACTICE CASES (AWARD OF PUNISHMENT):

The punishment shall be awarded to the candidate as detailed below:

  • Possession and/or utilization of incriminating material – The result of paper concerned of the examination shall be cancelled and awarded Zero in that
  • Misconduct inside the examination hall – The present result of the relevant paper shall be cancelled and awarded zero in that
  • Misconduct outside the examination hall – The present result shall be cancelled & FIR shall be lodged under Odisha Conduct of Examination Rules – All such reports shall be communicated to his/her parent.
  • Possession of incriminating material not connected to the subject/paper of examination

The candidate shall be exonerated of the M.P. charges and his/her results shall be published on merit.

The report of malpractice and report submitted by the subject expert and decision of

M.P. committee shall be placed before the Examination Committee for award of punishment. The result of the candidate shall be marked as M.P. and the result will be withheld in case the punishment has not been awarded till the date of publication of the result.
