Political Science

Overview

The Department of Political Science was established along with the inception of the college in 1957. At present the student strength is 64 in honours in each of the three years of the Under Graduate Programme. Post Graduate Programme has been introduced from 2023 with student strength of 32 in each of the two years. The Department has 5 sanctioned teaching posts.

The department of Political Science is dedicated to excellence in teaching and service. Department of Political Science stands committed to the vision of  Creating Future’s Responsible Citizens of our country, who are going to be the “Architects of Modern India/ New India”. Students are trained and mentored to occupy positions of responsibilities in different spheres in their future lives. The members of the department have voluminous experience to their credit imparting quality education to the students. They keep themselves updated about the changing aspects of political science at the regional, national and international levels.

Class room teaching is conducted regularly with all seriousness. Keeping in line with modern developments and contemporary requirements, Teaching-Learning methods are modified and fine-tuned from time to time. Accordingly teaching is provided with help of ICT and use of Smart Classroom.  Students are encouraged to participate in seminars, group discussions and various other competitions which are conducted from time to time. Special attention, in terms of remedial classes, are given to slow learners and physically challenged students. Mentoring systems and pictorial system are very much in place to address to the academic and non-academic needs of the students. Extension and outreach activities are conducted to broaden the horizon of the student and foster student-community relationship.

At the Under Graduate level the Model Syllabus prescribed by OSHEC is followed. However, the Board of Studies of the Department meets annually to make minor revisions of the syllabus taking into account the needs of the students. The Board of Studies are also adopted a new syllabus for the P.G. Programme which is at par with the syllabus of leading universities in terms of contents, structures and patterns. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is adhered in case of both the programmes.

  1. Conduct of seminars, workshops and extramural lectures are regular features of the Department. The purpose is to acquaint the students with contemporary issues and to trained them to present papers and participate in seminars.
